Griffith Woods in Southwest Calgary

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Last weekend, I walked through Griffith Woods in Southwest Calgary with my friend Roddy.

These are my first pictures to be posted from my new Canon T2i camera! I am also now using Adobe Lightroom for post-processing of my photos.

Sadly, it’s the end of the summer, but nature still looks great!

Berries like this are everywhere.

The river runs through the woods next to the trail. Roddy actually took this shot, not me.

Old wood lays in the river.

This is me!

There are also white berries everywhere!

This is Roddy.

A moth rests on the long grass.

Keep checking back, as I have more photos to post again soon.

I bought a Canon EOS Rebel T2i (550D) digital SLR with a 15-85mm lens

Monday, August 30th, 2010

After a couple weeks of careful research and consideration, I bought a Canon EOS Rebel T2i (550D).

I made this decision after reading many online reviews, and comparing features with the upcoming 60D. Overall, for my use, I decided this was an excellent upgrade for my photography.

Summer 2010 in Calgary

Monday, August 30th, 2010

Although it hasn’t been the best summer in Calgary, here are a few of my favourite photos taken this summer around the city.

A spider appears to be posing in this flower.

Calgary has a great skyline, thanks to many attractive buildings that each have a different design. These two towers, part of the same complex, use a lot of glass!

A small lake can be found at the top of Nose Hill.

Prince’s Island is a beautiful public space with many plants and scenery to provide inspiration.

This is another shot of the river through Prince’s Island park.

Canon announces the EOS 60D. Should I buy it?

As much as I enjoy photography, I am currently not a professional. I do often feel constrained by the limited abilities of my current cameras. These days, I’m looking to buy a digital SLR.

Summer 2010 in Saint John

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

While home in Saint John for a summer visit, I took photos around town as I usually do. I also created a video which I have entered in a separate blog post.

Here are some of my favourites:

I have probably taken this shot before in Rockwood Park, but I don’t care. It always looks beautiful.

From a fairly remote area of the park, I took this photo overlooking Lily Lake with a view of Uptown.

The St. John River as seen from UNBSJ is always a beautiful site.

The clock donated by Irving is a wonderful addition to the foot of King Street. The architecture of Brunswick House behind makes it even better.

Uptown during a work day is generally a quiet place when there are no tourists. These guys are always outside, though!

This view of Saint John Harbour reminds us that this is a working port, even though the major tourist attractions are not far away.

Check out the rest of my new photos from Saint John in my gallery. Also check out my Saint John tour video in my other blog post.

Central Park – New York City (7 of 7)

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

On my last full day in New York, I went to Central Park.

When she was young, my mother had her picture taken near this Hans Christian Andersen monument. So I did the same!

A beautiful bridge spans part of the lake that I rowed in with my friend Roddy.

Many New Yorkers love to relax here, as tall buildings loom over in the distance.

Trees are everywhere and contrast sharply with the tall buildings that you can find everywhere else in New York City.

Pathways snake all through the park. Sadly, we only had time to see part of the park.

I stand in front of one of the lakes. As evening drew near, it got quite cold, and I was not wearing anything warm.

This concludes my photo highlights from my trip. Be sure to check out my gallery which contains all of my favourite photos.

Check back soon for a video I compiled from this trip as well that I am still working on.

Empire State Building & Brooklyn Bridge – New York City (6 of 7)

Monday, July 12th, 2010

The city is a sea of bright lights at night. This view is from the top of the Empire State Building.

Another view from the top of the Empire State Building.

Cars drive under Brooklyn Bridge. So many movies and TV shows set in New York include this bridge in some way.

We only walked across part of the bridge. Walking the entire distance takes quite a while!

That’s all for now. Be sure to check out my gallery!
